Johnstons of Elgin

Johnstons of Elgin Merino Wool Herringbone Large Bed Throw in Powder Pink

£175 £245

Only 1 piece left in stock

This is the softest merino wool we could find. Made in Scotland by Johnstons of Elgin, who hold a Royal Warrant. It is that extra bit special because the best quality wool is used and the fibres are extra fine.

The weight of the throw is relatively lightweight, so it is perfect for layering or for those who don't like heavy bed blankets.

As a material, wool is:

  • Durable and naturally insulating
  • Has great eco credentials, being biodegradable and renewable
  • Thermoregulating. It has the superb quality of being able to retain heat but it can also wick moisture away. This makes it the ideal material for a bed throw.

Merino wool is highly sought after. Until 1986, Australia banded the export of all Merino Sheep. It has a shine, fineness and strength that standard wool doesn’t – it is much softer. You'd be forgiven for thinking this was cashmere.

We've co-ordinated our herringbone throws with our cushions.

This throw is 230cm wide so it suitable for most bed sizes. Available in four colourways.

Founder’s notes

I adore these throws. Herringbone is such a timeless but contemporary pattern. Johnstons are undoubtedly one of the top woollen manufacturers globally - typically producing cashmere scarves for well known luxury fashion houses. This throw surpassed all my expectations when I got a sample - you won't be disappointed!

Founded in the eighteenth century, Johnstons of Elgin know a thing or two about textile manufacturing. Traditions and expertise have been passed down from generation to generation, and these skills are still executed in the products produced today.

A truly luxurious organisation, Johnstons of Elgin focus on outstanding craftsmanship and religiously use only the finest natural fibres. They supply to some of the World’s most famous luxury fashion houses, as well as possessing a Royal Warrant.

Johnstons of Elgin complete all processes in-house from raw material dyeing right through to the finished goods, to ensure the highest quality at all touch points. Their products are 100% made in the UK.

The finishing process is incredibly important in contributing to the finished texture of the product. When cloth has been woven, it has a rough appearance. To combat this, the century-old method of scouring the fabric in the softest, most natural Scottish water is used. It ensures the fabric is restored to being super-soft. The process also removes the oil used to protect the fibres during the manufacturing process.
