Rebecca’s Hazelnut Liqueur Hot Chocolate

One of my favourite hot drinks to make at this time of year is a comforting mug of velvety hot chocolate. This recipe is my own variation on a classic that incorporates a hazelnut liqueur to add a warming boozy hit. A mixture of different chocolate varieties I find adds to the flavour however using a single variety is also fine but in this case my preference is at least 60%.

I love making this on a cosy afternoon after coming back from a walk as a fireside treat. A great one for children to get involved with too. Just maybe swap the Frangelico for marshmallows...

Ingredients:

Serves 4-5

1 litre of whole milk (or your choice of an alternative but my view is you can't beat whole milk, where it's suitable for you)

100g dark chocolate (I recommend Valrhona’s Caraïbe 66% or Guanaja 70%) broken in to small squares

100g milk chocolate (I recommend Valrhona’s Jivara 40%) broken in to small squares

55ml hazelnut liqueur (I recommend Frangelico hazelnut liqueur)

Golden sugar to taste

Method:

1. Bring the milk to a boil in a saucepan

2. Remove from the heat and add in the chocolate, broken in to small pieces and stir until glossy

3. Once the chocolate has melted, add back to the heat as required on medium heat.

5. Remove from the heat. Add in the hazelnut liqueur and golden sugar to taste, and stir.

6. Pour into mugs and enjoy!
