Duvet Covers
Choosing the Right Duvet Cover
The weave you choose plays an important role in how your bed feels. Percale duvet covers are lightweight, crisp and cool to the touch, particularly suited to warmer sleepers or summer months. Sateen has a more fluid handle with a silky-smooth sheen and a cocooning warmth that adds comfort in cooler weather.
Design details bring each range its own character. Our scalloped bed linen features decorative trims in both traditional and contemporary styles, including corded, hemstitch and embroidered designs. Our patterned bed linen collections include exquisite botanical and floral designs inspired by nostalgic English bedrooms.
Our duvet covers are available in sizes from single through to emperor, with select designs also offered in US queen and US king dimensions. A duvet cover, pillowcases and top sheet from the same range give a composed, layered finish.
What size duvet cover do I need?
The right size depends on the dimensions of your duvet insert. We offer duvet covers in single, double, king, super king and emperor sizes, with US queen and US king also available in select designs. Bear in mind that a duvet cover should match your duvet dimensions closely for a neat, composed finish. For more information and measurements, see our bed linen size guide.
Should a duvet cover be larger than the duvet insert?
A duvet cover that matches the insert closely will drape and sit most naturally on the bed. A cover that is too large can cause the duvet to shift and bunch, while one that is too small may compress the fill and reduce its warmth and loft. We recommend choosing a cover that matches the stated dimensions of your duvet as closely as possible.
How often should I wash my duvet cover?
Washing every one to two weeks is a sensible starting point, though this can vary with the seasons and whether you sleep with a top sheet beneath the duvet. A top sheet helps keep the cover cleaner for longer between washes. Follow the care instructions for your specific cotton weave, as percale and sateen may have slightly different temperature and tumble-drying recommendations.
What is the difference between a duvet cover and a comforter?
A duvet cover is a removable casing for a separate duvet insert. It can be taken off for washing or swapped to change the look of the bed. A comforter is a single quilted piece with the fill stitched in, so the cover and filling are inseparable. Duvets with covers offer greater flexibility, as the insert and cover can be chosen, washed and replaced independently.
Are your duvet covers OEKO-TEX® certified?
Yes. All of our duvet covers are certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, meaning everything from the yarn to the finished product has been independently tested for a wide range of potentially harmful substances.
What type of fastenings are used on your duvet covers?
All of our duvet covers have covered and enclosed button fastenings. These are designed to keep your duvet securely in place while maintaining a neat, refined finish.
Can I order a duvet cover in a bespoke or non-standard size?
Our Atelier bespoke bed linen service offers duvet covers tailored to your exact dimensions. This includes non-standard UK sizes, oversized beds and specialist requirements such as yacht berths or antique bed frames. Choose from the same Italian-woven percale and sateen cottons used across our collection, with a full range of finishing and embroidery options.
