Choosing Your Hand Towels
When choosing hand towels, the material should be your first consideration. All of our hand towels are crafted from 100% cotton with a medium weight of 550 GSM (grams per square metre). This weight creates a thick, soft towel with good absorbency while still drying relatively quickly; a factor that is particularly important for hand towels, which may be used several times a day.
Next, consider the colour. You may wish to choose a shade that harmonises with your existing bathroom accessories or a colour that adds playful contrast, depending on the ambiance you wish to create. Our Maria hand towels, woven from organic cotton, are available in pure white or warm ivory: timeless shades that wash well and slot beautifully into any colour scheme. For something more whimsical, our Amelia scalloped towels feature a jovial piped trim in white, asparagus, mustard, taupe or powder blue.

What is the difference between a hand towel and a guest towel?
A hand towel is generally larger, measuring around 50 x 90cm, and intended for regular use beside a bathroom basin. A guest towel is smaller, approximately 40 x 60cm, making it particularly useful in a cloakroom or for individual visitors. The compact size also means guest towels are easy to replace frequently and arrange in a small basket or on a narrow rail.
How many hand towels should I have?
The right number depends on how often the bathroom is used and how frequently you run a wash. We've found that two or three sets per basin allow one towel to be in use, one in the laundry and one clean set in reserve. A guest bathroom may benefit from several smaller towels that can be refreshed between visitors.
Are your hand towels sold in pairs or individually?
Most of our hand towels, including our Maria organic cotton and Amelia scalloped hand towels, are sold in pairs. However, some can be purchased individually. This varies by collection, so please check the dropdown menu on the individual product page for details.
Do your hand towels carry OEKO-TEX® certification?
Yes, all of our hand towels are OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified. This means that the yarn, dyes, finishing details and finished product have been independently tested for over 1,000 substances that may be harmful to health.
Should hand towels match the bath towels?
While many people opt for matching bath linens, it’s not the only option. A hand towel in a lighter or darker shade than the bath towel, or with a coloured border, can create a pleasant tonal effect or add contrast and interest to a bathroom. It comes down to personal preference.
How often should bathroom hand towels be changed?
Hand towels used regularly benefit from frequent washing, particularly in shared bathrooms. Changing them every few days is a sensible starting point, with more frequent replacement where use is heavy or the room remains humid. Allow each towel to dry fully between uses and follow the care instructions for its particular fibre and finish.
