Table Talk with The September Chronicles

For our high summer Table Talk, we caught up with Simon & Jen from The September Chronicles. Our favourite travelling duo offer inspiration for exploring the UK and beyond, staying in some of the most beautiful hotels in the country. We spoke to Simon & Jen about their favourite places in the UK for a relaxing getaway, and how to get that luxury hotel feel in your own home.

What are your favourite retreats for a relaxing UK getaway?

We love exploring new places and don't often head back to the same place twice, but when we are looking to relax anywhere with countryside or water views and peace & quiet appeals to us. We love accommodation with character too and don't mind falling off the grid for a few days in a rustic cabin or cottage.

What items do you always pack, no matter the length of your trip?

Our cameras and a book

Which UK destinations and/or hotels are on your travel wish list?

We've always got a long list of hotels going but we've heard great things about Glebe House Devon, Gleneagles, Thyme, The Rectory, The Fox at Oddington and The Newt in Somerset. It would be nice to explore more of Wales, The Peak District and the New Forest too.

You have stayed in some of the most beautiful hotels, are there any design features or finishing touches you have introduced or would like to introduce into your own home?

During the pandemic when we couldn't travel we really tried to recreate the feeling of a hotel at home by investing in some good hotel-quality sheets and fluffy bathrobes and towels. Smells that remind us of destinations or hotels are always welcome too, so we often hunt out candles, soaps and toiletries during our travels.

Who would be your dream dinner party guests and why?

Right now we'd love to have our family and friends from Australia over to visit as we get to see them so infrequently

What would feature on your dinner party playlist?

An eclectic mix probably. It would depend on our guest list too but a mash of 80's and 90's nostalgia with jazz and acoustic tracks.

Tell us about the most memorable dinner party you've ever attended?

Our wedding was a pretty memorable one! We had two long tables and it felt like a huge dinner party with all our favourite people

Which Rebecca Udall products would you use to style an al fresco dinner table?

For Summer we'd probably go with the white ruffle linen tablecloth, white dot glass tumblers, natural wood cutlery and basket weave plates. Paired with plenty of flowers, tapered candles and the Allegra Murano glass jug for a hint of colour
