The Tablecloths in Rebecca’s Linen Cupboard and How to Style Them
The perfect tablecloth will completely transform your dining table, but can also be used all year-round in different seasons for different occasions. Rather than always buying new, we encourage you to invest in a few timeless tablecloths that you can style in different ways, using them over and over again. We asked our founder, Rebecca, to share three tablecloths that she has in her own collection, that she considers to be timeless and versatile.
Classic Linen Hemstitch Tablecloth, White
A simple, classic white tablecloth is the ultimate investment piece. There is no end to the ways that you can style this tablecloth, introducing different colours and textures with the crockery, napkins, placemats and accessories that you choose. It works for all the special occasions throughout the year – Christmas, Easter, birthdays, etc. This timeless tablecloth is woven and made in Portugal using European flax. The linen gets softer with use, meaning that this tablecloth is designed to elevate the everyday rather than being saved for best.
Simple styling that works all year round, using our abaca placemats and Eleanor crockery.
Dressed for Christmas with seasonal forest green placemats, rattan chargers and our Elouise crockery. Festive flower arrangements and napkins tied with matching velvet ribbon complete the table.
Ruffle Gingham Linen Tablecloth, Chocolate Brown
A printed tablecloth is fun yet practical addition to every linen closet. I also love our Victoria striped linen tablecloths, of which I have several colours on rotation but this brown gingham check has been a year-round staple ever since it launched. It looks just as stylish when styled for Spring with pops of colour and pretty scalloped plates as it does for autumn when paired with more neutral, warm hues. The ruffles add a whimsical twist that I love, adding an element of joy to the room when you set the table.
Styled for spring with scalloped plates, bamboo cutlery and rattan placemats.
Style for autumn with darker colours, featuring green waxed linen placemats, rattan chargers and Josephine plates.
Hellebore Linen Tablecloth
The third tablecloth that I would recommend adding to your collection is a patterned design that has a different colour palette and feel, but equally can be used year round. With hellebores being a winter flower, this floral print is as suitable for styling during autumn and winter as it is for spring and summer. For the warmer months, embrace the whimsy by pairing with rattan chargers, scalloped or hand-painted plates and seasonal flowers. In autumn and winter, lean into the green tones and layer with our brown chargers beneath plates.
Styled simply for a summer al fresco lunch with our Olivia plates, abaca placemats and scalloped napkins.
Styled with rattan scalloped chargers in brown, Josephine plates and Sophie green corded napkins for a classic table that would be suitable all year round.
