Bath Towels

What makes a towel worth reaching for, day after day? It starts with the cotton. We use long-staple fibres, woven and combed in Portugal or Italy by heritage makers whose families have worked in textile production for generations passing on heritage know-how. Combing removes the shorter, weaker strands, leaving only the longest and most resilient fibres behind. The result is a truly luxurious bath towel that feels plush and generous from the first use, and stays that way.

Our towels have a zero-twist construction for softness, longevity and absorption. It's a method that produces a softer, more absorbent yarn and gives the cloth its distinctive, cloud-like feel. We carry a range of styles, from our scalloped Amelia collection to our organic Maria range and bespoke finest Italian Atelier bath linens.

What Sets Our Cotton Bath Towels Apart

At Rebecca Udall, luxury bath towels are beyond just towel weight. Design, softness, longevity and craftsmanship, plus the partners we support in our manufacturing process and the joy they bring to you at home, are all equally important.

We start with long-staple cotton, chosen for its smoothness, its resilience and its ability to absorb moisture quickly without becoming heavy. The yarn is untwisted, which produces luxury towels with a marshmallow-like softness that lesser quality twisted yarns cannot match. Each piece is then woven by skilled heritage makers in Portugal or Italy; regions with deep traditions in towelling and that are well-known for textile excellence globally.

Generations of expertise in fibre selection, weaving and finishing are concentrated in these mills, and it shows in the cloth. For a closer look at how our luxury towels are made, explore our towels buying guide.

Choosing the Right Bath Towels for Your Home

Cotton remains one of the most timeless choices for luxury bath towels due to its softness, absorbency and durability. High-quality cotton fibres naturally draw in moisture while feeling breathable and comfortable against the skin. Over time, well-made cotton towels also become softer with washing.

Selecting your bath towels is partly about feel and partly about how you want your bathroom to look and live. Our Amelia collection features a scalloped fabric trim for a gentle, elegant edge. It’s a detail that adds character to a guest bathroom or a quietly considered family one. For those drawn to organic fibres, the Maria collection is crafted from long-staple organic cotton for a naturally soft, gentle towel.

All of our bath towel collections are also available as bath sheets, hand towels and face towels, so you can build a bespoke set in the style that suits your home.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you still have some questions please do feel free to get in touch with us.

How do I care for cotton bath towels?

Wash at up to 40°C using a detergent without optical brightening agents, which can affect the natural tone of the cotton over time. Avoid bleach, chlorine-based products and fabric conditioners – softeners coat the fibres and can reduce absorbency. Air drying is ideal; if using a tumble dryer, choose a low heat setting.

What is combed cotton?

Combing is a process that removes the shorter, weaker fibres from the cotton before spinning. What remains are the longest, smoothest strands, which produce a yarn that is softer, more durable and less prone to pilling. It is one of the reasons our luxury towels feel noticeably different from mass-produced alternatives.

Why are your towels made in Portugal?

Portugal has one of the longest-standing traditions in towelling and textile production in Europe. Specialist knowledge has been passed down through family-run mills for generations, and this depth of experience is what enables the production of towels that are consistently soft, durable and beautifully finished. We work with Portuguese heritage weavers because their expertise in fibre selection, combing, weaving and finishing embodies the standard we are looking for. Our Atelier towels, however, are crafted by heritage makers in Italy, with the same exacting standards of textile excellence.

What is zero-twist cotton?

Zero-twist refers to a construction method where the cotton yarn is left untwisted during spinning. This is only possible with the highest grade of raw cotton, because without the twist the fibre needs to be long and strong enough to hold together on its own. The result is a towel that is naturally softer, fluffier and more absorbent than a conventionally twisted equivalent.

What GSM should I choose for cotton bath towels?

GSM (grams per square metre) measures the density of the towel. We use 550gsm across our core collections, which balances a more plush, substantial feel with practical drying time. Towels above 600gsm can feel heavier but take longer to dry; towels below 450gsm dry quickly but may feel less substantial. For most daily use, the 500–600gsm range offers the best balance of softness, absorbency and practicality.

What should I look for in a luxury bath towel?

Three things matter most: the fibre, the construction and the finishing. Long-staple cotton produces a smoother, more durable yarn that resists pilling and softens with each wash. Zero-twist construction creates a fluffier, more absorbent luxury towel. Finally, the finishing, from combing to trimming, is what gives a towel its final feel. A well-made towel should feel generous and beautifully absorbent, and should hold its softness for years.
