Organic Cotton Towels
Living with Organic Cotton Towels
Organic cotton is a fabric that rewards daily use. Each wash softens the fibres a little further, and because the yarn has not been heavily processed, it holds its absorbency and shape well over time.
One of the pleasures of organic towels is how they pair with the rest of a bathroom. The neutral, undyed quality of the cloth sits easily alongside other textures and materials. It works equally well when layered with a cotton bath mat, or when adding warmth with rattan accessories.
When it comes to caring for your organic cotton towels, we recommend washing at up to 40°C with a gentle detergent. Avoid fabric softeners, which coat the fibres and reduce their natural ability to absorb moisture. Air drying is ideal, though a low tumble dry works well too.
What makes organic cotton towels different from regular cotton towels?
Organic cotton is grown without synthetic pesticides, fertilisers or genetically modified seeds. This more natural growing process tends to produce a fibre that is softer and less chemically treated, which you can often feel in the finished towel. Over time, organic towels maintain their softness well because the fibres have not been weakened by harsh processing.
Are organic cotton towels more absorbent?
Absorbency depends on several factors, such as the fibre length, the weight of the cloth, and how it is woven. Long-staple organic cotton does produce a smooth, consistent yarn that absorbs moisture effectively and dries relatively quickly. The organic quality adds gentleness, but the construction adds performance.
Are organic towels good for sensitive skin?
They are a thoughtful choice for anyone with skin sensitivities. Because organic cotton is grown and processed with fewer chemicals, the finished fabric carries less residual irritant. This makes it particularly well suited to use on the face and body, and for households with young children.
What is the difference between organic cotton and standard long-staple cotton?
Both produce excellent towels, but they differ at the source. Standard long-staple cotton is selected for fibre length, which determines softness and durability. Organic long-staple cotton offers those same qualities, with the additional assurance that the crop has been grown without synthetic chemicals.
Why does the origin of organic cotton matter?
Not all organic cotton is equal. The growing region, the soil, the climate and the skill of the grower all affect the length and consistency of the fibre. This, in turn, determines how the finished towel feels and performs. We source from growers and weavers whose standards we trust, and whose expertise produces a cloth we are happy to put our name to.
